New Delhi: A large swathes of Pakistan including Islamabad and Lahore suffered power outage for hours on Monday morning following a technical glitch.

Authorities blamed a drop in frequency of the national grid for the cause of outage, which led to widespread breakdown in power distribution.

Geo TV reported different power distribution companies in the nation as confirming the breakdown in power distribution.

Suggesting a widespread crisis, areas of Lahore and Karachi alongside 22 districts of Balochistan, including Quetta reported the power breakdown.

Meanwhile, Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) reportedly said that the two transmission lines from Guddu to Quetta tripped.

As many as 117 grid stations in Islamabad went without electricity, so did areas in Peshawar.

A similar incident in 2021 from ‘technical fault’ at a power plant in Sindh province saw the nation slipping into darkness.

The blackout was reportedly triggered by a sudden drop in the frequency of the power transmission system from 50 to 0 in less than a second.

The power outage back then had a cascading effect, which led to shutting down the entire power system, nevertheless it was restored a day later.
