Pak nominates Trump for Nobel Prize; He says "won’t get it no matter what"
text_fieldsIslamabad: Pakistan has announced via social media platform X that it will formally recommend U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.
The nomination followed Trump’s remarks on Friday, where he claimed he deserved the Nobel for various peace efforts, including his role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. “I should have gotten it four or five times,” he said. “They won’t give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.”
On his platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed frustration, stating, “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize, no matter what I do.” He highlighted a new treaty he claims to have brokered between Congo and Rwanda, calling it a “Great Day for Africa and, quite frankly, a Great Day for the World!”
Trump also cited his involvement in the Abraham Accords and efforts in the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran conflicts as further justification for the prize. “No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do... but the people know, and that’s all that matters to me,” he added.
While Trump asserts that U.S. diplomacy prevented a war between India and Pakistan, Indian officials maintain that the ceasefire was the result of direct military talks between the two nations’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs), with no third-party mediation.
The Pakistan government said in a statement that it has decided to “formally recommend” Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in “recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis”.
At a moment of “heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond”, the statement claimed.
Meanwhile, former National Security Advisor John Bolton commented on X that Trump’s desire for the Nobel stems from former President Barack Obama having received one.
