Vatican City: Pope Francis has named two nuns and a lay woman to the committee that advises him in the selection of the world's bishops. The three women were named into the committee, which was always membered by men before, Reuters reported.

Earlier, the Pope had disclosed his decision on the matter to Reuters. He explained that he wanted to give women more top-level positions in the Holy See.

Three women the Pope named are sister Raffaella Petrini, the incumbent deputy governor of the Vatican City, French nun Yvonne Reungoat and laywoman Maria Lia Zervino, who heads the association of women's catholic organisations UMOFC, according to Reuters.
