US-China trade hopes rise as Trump meets Xi in Busan

Busan: US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet today in a closely watched diplomatic encounter aimed at easing mounting trade tensions between the two global powers.
The high-stakes meeting, taking place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, marks the first face-to-face engagement between the leaders in six years. Speaking ahead of the talks, Trump expressed optimism about reaching a “great deal” with China, describing the potential agreement as “very exciting for everybody”, reported The Indian Express.
During a dinner with fellow APEC leaders on Wednesday, Trump was overheard saying the meeting with Xi could last “three, four hours” before he returns to Washington.
Trade relations between Washington and Beijing have grown increasingly strained following Trump’s re-election and renewed tariff measures targeting Chinese exports. In response to China’s proposed expansion of curbs on rare earth mineral exports, critical to high-tech industries, Trump pledged to impose a fresh round of 100% tariffs.
The outcome of today’s meeting in Busan could prove pivotal in reshaping the trajectory of US-China trade relations.
