New York, US: The law enforcement officials in the United States are reportedly targeting gurdwaras in New York and New Jersey in their hunt for illegal immigrants, NDTV reported.

The action comes after the US Department of Homeland Security withdrew the Biden regime’s policy of not allowing law enforcement near ‘sensitive areas’ including places of worship.

The Trump administration is reported to be aggressively pursuing the policy of deporting illegal immigrants in the country.

Gurdwaras come under the radar of the officials from the Department of Homeland Security after they were allegedly used by Sikh separatists and illegal and undocumented immigrants.

Shortly after Donald Trump’s swearing ceremony, acting Secretary of Homeland Security Benjamine Huffman issued a directive rescinding the Biden administration's guidelines that stopped law enforcement in or near the ‘sensitive’ areas.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said: ‘This action empowers the brave men and women in CBP and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and catch criminal aliens-including murders and rapists-who have illegally come into our country.’

Adding further the spokesperson said that criminals would no longer be able to hide in ‘America's schools and churches to avoid arrest. The Trump administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense.’

Some Sikh organisations called out the move with the Sikh American Legal Defence and Education Fund (SALDF) expressing ‘grave concern’ over the withdrawal of Biden administration’s guidelines that designated houses of worship as ‘sensitive areas’.

‘We are deeply alarmed by the Department of Homeland Security's decision to eliminate protections for sensitive areas and then target places of worship like gurdwaras,’ Kiran Kaur Gill, executive director of SALDEF, was quoted as saying.
