New Delhi: A man disguising himself as a monk allegedly killed his estranged wife in her Delhi home early this week, according to the police.
The accused, identified as Pramod Jha, 55, attacked Kiran Jha in Neb Sarai in south Delhi at around 12am on Wednesday, NDTV reported.
Her neighbours discovered Jha, who was a healthcare assistant, in a pool of blood hours after the attack.
The motive behind the murder could not be immediately ascertained.
‘CCTV footage from the area showed the accused, Pramod Jha, leaving Kiran's residence at around 12.50am. It appears that he escaped after committing the crime,’ an official was quoted as saying.
Pramod, hailing from Bihar, left his wife some 10 years ago.
‘The accused arrived in Delhi from his native village in Bihar’s Munger district on August 1 after nearly a decade-long separation with his wife. He reportedly dressed as a sadhu to mislead his family members and gain access to the house’, the officer told news agency PTI.
Kiran Jha was living with her son Durgesh Jha, daughter-in-law Kamal Jha and granddaughter.
Durgesh, who is working with a micro finance company in Bihar's Dharbhanga, was not in the capital city when Jha was attacked.
Police are looking for the accused just as a team of the Forensic Science Laboratory collected evidence from the scene of the crime.
Police have recovered the hammer that the accused used for the murder.
‘The motive behind the murder remains unclear. A detailed investigation is underway,’ the official reportedly said.
