Apple is expected to continue its impressive momentum in the Indian smartphone market, with projections indicating a shipment of 2.8 million iPhone units in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.

This represents a year-over-year (YoY) growth of more than 20 percent, even as the overall market faces a seasonal slump and challenges posed by extreme heat waves across parts of the country.

According to a report by MoneyControl, citing data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), the broader Indian smartphone market is anticipated to shrink by 3–4 percent in Q2 2025, with total shipments estimated to range between 33 and 34 million units.

The decline is attributed to a typical seasonal slowdown in consumer spending and reduced sales activity due to ongoing heat waves affecting large regions of the country. Despite these headwinds, Apple is defying the broader trend with significant growth, further solidifying its presence in the Indian market.

“Apple is expected to register a double-digit growth of more than 20 percent,” the report noted, highlighting how the company’s strong performance is driven by growing demand, attractive discounts, and consumer financing options.

While Android smartphone shipments are expected to fall by approximately 5 percent YoY in Q2 2025, Apple’s numbers stand out. The brand’s rise follows a robust first quarter, where it shipped three million iPhone units in India—marking a 23 percent increase YoY, the highest among the top five smartphone brands in the country.

A key contributor to Apple’s growth has been the iPhone 16, which became a popular choice among Indian consumers, accounting for 4 percent of total smartphone shipments during the first quarter. Apple’s overall market share reportedly reached 9.5 percent during the same period.
