BJP gets slammed for politicising India-Pakistan conflict

New Delhi: The BJP has come under severe fire for politicising the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan following the launch of Operation Sindoor. The saffron party has been utilising the situation through a social media campaign that many have called inappropriate and divisive, The News Minute reported.
When the borders with Pakistan turned burning hot on May 9 over a military standoff, the BJP released a video praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aggressive stance in combating cross-border terrorism.
The video called the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance’s (UPA) approaches in the past meek, while Modi’s military responses were positively aggressive. In contrast to Congress’s mode of peace talks for de-escalation, Modi’s policy of not engaging in peace talks, instead carrying out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, was raised to sky heights. The report specifies the UPA government's peace talks during the 2005 Delhi blasts, the 2006 Mumbai train bombings, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the 2010 Pune bombing as failures.
There were sharp criticisms against the video, particularly its timing and tone. Those who condemned the video included sympathisers of the party too, TNM reports.

Psephologist Yashwant Deshmukh came down on the video, taking to X. He called the campaign “absolutely disgraceful” and warned that it undermines national unity.
“Pakistani media is saying you are doing all this for your own political gains, and this kind of stupid campaign gives them legitimacy. This is not the time for political differences but a time to take everyone along,” he wrote.
Political analyst Sumanth Raman said, “At a time when the entire country is united, they put this out. Shameful. This is NOT the time for trying to score political points.”
