Abu Dhabi's delivery riders will soon have access to covered rest areas in shopping malls, thanks to an initiative by the Joint Traffic Safety Committee. This effort, led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), aims to improve working conditions for bike delivery riders during the hot summer months.

The initiative involves the Integrated Transport Centre, Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and the Department of Health. Shopping mall administrations in Abu Dhabi have been encouraged to provide seating, water coolers and mobile phone charging stations in these rest areas, ensuring they are easily accessible near common pick-up and drop-off points.

Additionally, four buses have been designated as temporary rest stops for drivers in Khalifa City, Shamkhah, Al Wathbah and Al Ain City. Permanent rest areas are also being established at four locations on Abu Dhabi Island, Khalifa City and Shakhbout City.

The Joint Traffic Safety Committee continues to work on reducing traffic accidents and injuries by implementing modern traffic systems, promoting safe driving practices and fostering community collaboration.
