UAE foreign minister, US state secretary discuss Gaza crisis, regional developments

UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday at the Department of State to discuss a range of pressing regional issues and reinforce bilateral ties.

The meeting followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s landmark visit to the UAE on May 13 during his Gulf tour, which also included Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The visit marked his first international trip in his second term as president, underlining renewed American engagement in the region.

During the talks, Sheikh Abdullah and Secretary Rubio discussed the significance of the US-UAE strategic partnership in fostering regional security and economic stability. They also reviewed outcomes from President Trump’s UAE visit, reaffirming mutual interests and cooperation.

Secretary Rubio expressed appreciation for the UAE’s continued humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip and emphasised the need to prevent Hamas from regaining control or posing threats to Israel.

In addition, both ministers addressed ongoing humanitarian crises in Syria and Sudan, agreeing on the need for international coordination to mitigate suffering and support political solutions.

The meeting reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and strategic relations between the two nations amid evolving regional dynamics.
