Trump acknowledges Elon Musk’s apology, signaling possible reconciliation
text_fieldsWashington: The White House confirmed on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump has accepted an apology from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, hinting at a thaw in relations between the two prominent figures following a recent public rift.
According to a CNN report, Musk phoned Trump on Monday night and followed up with a public apology on Wednesday, expressing regret over his earlier social media comments that contributed to the public falling-out.
Speaking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The President acknowledged the statement that Elon put out this morning and he is appreciative of it. We are continuing to focus on the business of the American people.”
When questioned about whether the Trump administration was reviewing Musk’s government contracts, a move Trump had previously suggested, Leavitt clarified, “Currently no efforts have been made on that front as far as I’m aware.”
The apology reportedly followed a private conversation last Friday between Musk, Vice President JD Vance, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, during which the strained relationship was discussed at length.
CNN also reported that senior Republican lawmakers and Trump allies have been urging Musk to reconcile with the President and consider supporting the administration’s major domestic policy proposal, dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill”. The bill is currently facing resistance in the Senate.
Once considered Trump’s closest ally in the tech world, Musk has retained strong ties to key members of Trump’s inner circle. In recent days, these aides and allies have engaged Musk through personal outreach in an effort to ease tensions.
While Musk is reportedly open to mending ties, sources said he remains critical of the bill’s lack of spending cuts, a concern he raised during talks with Republican figures.
Though the situation remains in flux, with Trump acknowledging the apology and both parties signaling a willingness to move forward, renewed cooperation between the Trump administration and Musk now appears increasingly possible.
