Group beat priest for not opening temple gate after closing hours in MP
text_fieldsBhopal: A group of about 30 people arrived at a well-known temple in Madhya Pradesh after closing hours Friday night and thrashed the priest for not opening the gate, NDTV reported.
The group arrived in a fleet of eight to 10 car at the Mata Tekri temple at around 12:40 am when the temple already shut the gates.
The priest alleged a person named Jitu Raghuvanshi, who the police said has a past criminal record, along with others thrashed the priest for not letting them in the hilltop temple.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress claimed the son of a BJP MLA was part of the group, police have not yet confirmed the allegation.
Footage going viral online showed the group, who arrived at the foot of the temple in cars with a couple of them having red beacons, offering prayers inside.
The priest reportedly said that the group led by Jitu Raghuvanshi arrived at around 12.40, after the temple was closed by midnight, adding: ‘When I told them that the temple was closed, they forced me to open the gates and threatened to kill me. They also beat me’.
City Superintendent of Police Dinesh Agrawal said alongside registering the case police are examining the footage from 50 cameras in the temple.
When asked if the son of a BJP leader led the group that barged in to the temple, the officer said that an investigation is underway in the case.
