One State One RRB: 28 banks, 22000+ branches operational from May 1
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Beginning May 1, a total of 28 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) with more than 22,000 branches across 700 districts will operate under the 'One State One RRB' policy, the Ministry of Finance announced on Thursday.
As part of this initiative, 26 RRBs across 11 states and union territories have been amalgamated into single, standalone entities within their respective regions. This consolidation has reduced the total number of RRBs in the country from 43 to 28, a move aimed at enhancing their financial viability and operational performance, according to the Department of Financial Services (DFS).
In a post on X, the DFS stated: “Now there will be 28 RRBs with over 22,000 branches spanning across 700 districts.”
The amalgamation is expected to increase the capital base of these unified RRBs, supporting greater credit growth and enabling more effective diversification aligned with state-specific developmental objectives. All restructured RRB entities will now have an authorised capital of ₹2,000 crore, the ministry added.
