Jammu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Chenab Railway Bridge, after which he visited the photo exhibition highlighting technical hardships faced during the construction of the bridge.

Interacting with engineers and skilled workers, PM Modi praised their perseverance in overcoming harsh weather and difficult terrain to complete the world’s tallest railway bridge at 359 metres—35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

He commended their dedication in achieving this feat in record time. Accompanying him at the exhibition were MoS (PMO) Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The CEO of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, briefed the PM during the photo exhibition.

Satish Kumar accompanied the PM when he inaugurated the Chenab Bridge while he went round the inaugural track.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed on Friday about the fully mechanised maintenance system of the Katra-Srinagar railway track, making it the first of its kind and the safest in the country.

He also inaugurated the Anji Khad cable-stayed Railway Bridge, India's first cable-stayed rail bridge. Holding the national flag, PM Modi walked across the bridge and later crossed it in a railway coach, accompanied by L-G Manoj Sinha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Following this, he will travel to Katra, the base camp town of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, to flag off two Vande Bharat trains—one from Katra to Srinagar and the other from Srinagar to Katra. The Katra-Srinagar train will be flagged off physically, while the Srinagar-Katra train will be launched virtually.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various projects worth Rs 46,000 crore.
