Raghogarh, Madhya Pradesh: A man who was riding a motorbike wrapping a serpent around his neck died following a fatal bite in Katra Mohalla of Raghogarh municipality, Madhya Pradesh.

Deepak Mahabar, who was locally known for catching snake from homes, hopes and residential areas, was returning from one such mission on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day when he received the phone call requesting help, Mahabar rushed to the scene to catch the snake.

After catching the snake it occurred to him that he had to pick his son from school.

The 42-year-old wrapped the snake he rescued around his neck, before rushing off to the school.

The snake, remaining still wrapped around his neck, bite him on the hand as he was returning home.

Mahabar, who managed to call a friend for help, was taken to a local hospital in Raghogarh, before shifted to district hospital in Guna.

As his condition appeared to be improving by evening, he returned home.

But later at night he was rushed back to the hospital after his condition worsened and died in the hospital around 4 am on Tuesday.

His body was handed over to the family following a post-mortem.

Mahabar who worked a snake catcher with JP University , was well-known in the region for catching and releasing hundreds of snakes into the wild, without accepting payments.

NDTV quoted a friend of Mahabar saying: ‘He would always respond when someone called about a snake,’ adding ‘that’s exactly what happened this time. He went, caught the snake, and while returning home, it bit him on the moving bike.’

His friend added that Mahabar got better in the evening but his condition deteriorated at night ‘The snake bit him around 12 or 1 in the afternoon, and he died around 4 am.’
