Well-known forensic expert Dr Shirley Vasu passes away
text_fieldsKozhikode: Dr Shirley Vasu, 68, the forensic expert who brought breakthroughs to several controversial criminal cases in Kerala, has passed away on Thursday.
She breathed her last at Kozhikode Medical College. Found to be lying unconscious at her home in Kozhikode, Vasu was rushed to the hospital. Her body has been kept at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
Alongside bringing to conclusion several high-profile criminal probes, Vasu helped advancing forensic science in the state.
Active all along in the field of forensic, Shirley Vasu examined thousands of cases during her official tenure and taught hundreds of students in the field of forensic medicine.
Hailing from Thodupuzha, Shirley served as the head of the forensic medicine department at Kozhikode Medical College.
After graduating MBBS from Kottayam Medical College in 1979, Dr Shirley Vasu pursued post-graduate studies at Kozhikode Medical College and turned to forensic medicine in 1981.
Dr Shirley Vasu, who in 2017 won the Justice Fathima Beevi Award, the Kerala government’s prestigious Vanitha Ratnam award, authored the bestselling book 'Postmortem Table', sharing her experiences in the field.
