Kuwait dispatched its first relief flight to Gaza on Sunday. The aircraft carried 10 tons of food supplies as part of a new airlift campaign to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory.

The aircraft departed from Abdullah Al-Mubarak Air Base bound for Egypt’s Al-Arish International Airport, where the aid will be transferred for safe delivery into Gaza. The operation is led by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) in cooperation with the Ministries of Social Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Defense, with logistical support from the Kuwaiti Air Force.

Fawaz Al-Mazrouei, Director General of the KRCS, said the air bridge reflects Kuwait’s commitment to supporting Palestinians during their humanitarian hardship.

“This embodies the country’s high directives and its historic role in standing with our brothers in times of crisis,” he told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The aid mission comes amid dire conditions in Gaza. The enclave’s Health Ministry reports that at least 61,430 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023. This includes 217 who died from hunger, 100 of them children.

The ministry also reported that 35 people were killed and more than 300 injured in the past 24 hours while attempting to obtain humanitarian aid. Since May 27, such incidents have claimed 1,778 lives and left over 12,800 injured.

Earlier this week, Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs announced that a nationwide donation campaign had raised KD 11.5 million. The funds are being used to procure food and essential items through the Kuwait Flour Mills Company, with KRCS managing distribution.

Al-Mazrouei noted that coordination is ongoing with the Egyptian and Palestinian Red Crescent societies to ensure aid delivery meets urgent needs. Additional flights are planned in the coming days to sustain the relief effort.
