Dubai Metro Blue Line works prompt traffic diversions in Mirdif area

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced traffic diversions in the Mirdif area as part of ongoing construction on the Dubai Metro Blue Line. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 15.
The RTA confirmed that the roundabout intersection between 5th and 8th Street near City Centre Mirdif will be closed. A diversion will redirect traffic from 5th to 8th Street toward City Centre Mirdif and from 8th to 5th Street toward Algeria Street.
Authorities will also provide an alternative access road to the mall parking area. A U-turn will be available near Ghoroob Square for traffic coming from City Centre Mirdif Street.
The RTA has urged motorists to use alternative routes and plan their trips in advance to avoid congestion.
Last month, Dubai’s Ruler laid the foundation stone for the first Blue Line Metro station. The Emaar Properties station, designed as a golden cylinder, will be the highest Metro station in the world at 74 metres. It will also offer commercial and investment facilities.
The Blue Line project spans 30 kilometres and includes 14 stations. It will expand Dubai's Metro network to 131 kilometres and 78 stations. The project is expected to carry 200,000 passengers daily by 2030 and increase to 320,000 by 2040.
The line will serve nine major districts, including Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City. Travel time along the line will range between 10 and 25 minutes.
The Blue Line will include nine elevated and five underground stations. It will also feature three interchange stations, including Creek Station on the Green Line, Centrepoint on the Red Line and International City 1 on the Blue Line.
The project includes public bus bays, taxi stands, bike and scooter racks and parking for People of Determination. It will house the largest underground interchange station in the network, covering 44,000 square metres with a daily capacity of 350,000 passengers.
The RTA awarded the Dh20.5-billion contract to Turkish and Chinese firms Mapa, Limak and CRRC. The Blue Line is Dubai’s first transport project to meet Platinum Category green building standards.
