Dubai Police seize 41 jet skis, issue fines up to Dh2,000
text_fieldsDubai Police, in coordination with the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), have launched a large-scale inspection campaign targeting jet ski users across the emirate. The week-long operation resulted in 431 fines and the seizure of 41 jet skis for violations of maritime safety regulations.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance and ensure a secure environment along Dubai’s coastline, according to officials.
Sheikh Dr Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of DMA, said, "Our joint efforts highlight Dubai’s commitment to becoming a global benchmark for maritime safety. Ensuring a secure and sustainable environment for all sea users supports economic growth and strengthens Dubai’s position as a leading maritime hub".
Brigadier Dr Hassan Suhail, Director of the Ports Police Station, highlighted that the campaign was launched to reduce accidents and injuries caused by negligence or reckless behaviour. Police patrols were deployed across marine zones to reinforce public safety and confidence.
Authorities reported a range of violations during the inspections. These included operating with expired jet ski licences, entering restricted swimming areas and hotel beaches, breaching permitted usage hours, riding without life jackets, underage operation and exceeding passenger limits.
Penalties for such offences range from Dh1,000 to Dh2,000. Users caught disturbing others or venturing outside designated areas faced the steepest fines, while expired licences and failure to wear safety gear also attracted significant penalties.
Dubai Police also reiterated the importance of emergency readiness. Marine rescue units remain on standby 24/7 to respond to incidents swiftly. Jet ski users are advised to follow all safety protocols, respect speed limits of 5 to 7 nautical miles and avoid getting too close to private or tourist vessels.
The public has been encouraged to use the “Sail Safely” service on the Dubai Police app, which offers real-time assistance and location tracking. In case of emergencies, users are reminded to contact 999 immediately.
Authorities say the campaign will continue as part of broader efforts to instil a culture of safety and accountability among recreational sea users.
