Dettol has strongly dismissed recent claims made on a podcast that questioned the safety of applying its antiseptic liquid (ASL) directly on wounds.

The brand issued a firm rebuttal, stating the allegations made by Dr. Manjot Marwah, during a conversation with content creator Raj Shamani, are “baseless, misleading, and unscientific.”

In a detailed statement, Reckitt Benckiser India, the company behind Dettol, accused the podcast of being part of a “deliberate attempt to damage the brand’s reputation.” They further alleged that the individual “mischievously” avoided naming Dettol ASL directly, while casting doubt on its safety, in order to confuse consumers and generate fear around the entire Dettol product line - including its cosmetic products like soaps.

Calling the podcast a “malicious campaign,” the company said it is preparing to take legal action against the woman involved for spreading false information.

Dettol reassured consumers that its antiseptic liquid is not only approved by government health authorities but is also endorsed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The product, known for its wide use in first aid and wound care, has been sold globally for over 90 years and meets all stringent skin safety standards, the company emphasised.

“We urge our loyal customers not to be swayed by agenda-driven narratives from so-called experts,” Dettol stated.
