Dubai’s summer relief drive, 'Al Freej Fridge', has returned for its second edition with a mission to distribute 2 million bottles of cold water, juices and frozen treats to outdoor workers across the emirate.

Launched by Ferjan Dubai in collaboration with the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) and the UAE Food Bank and supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the campaign will run until August 23. It targets cleaning staff, construction workers, delivery drivers, landscaping crews and those most exposed to the scorching summer heat.

Ibrahim Al Balooshi, Director of Sustainability and Partnerships at MBRGI, said the initiative “places people at the heart of its priorities,” adding that it reflects the organisation’s mission to promote solidarity and compassion.

“Al Freej Fridge is a model of collaborative humanitarian action", he said.

Building on the success of its 2024 debut, which distributed 1 million bottles, this year’s expanded campaign will utilise refrigerated trucks to deliver refreshments directly to work sites. Fixed fridges have also been installed in workers’ accommodations to ensure easy access.

“This campaign embodies a message of gratitude to the workers who play a fundamental role in Dubai’s progress,” said Alia Al Shamlan, Director of Ferjan Dubai.

“It is inspired by the spirit of solidarity that defines our society".

The campaign also encourages volunteerism, calling on community members to join distribution efforts using their own vehicles. It aims to promote community engagement and foster a deeper sense of social responsibility.

Suqia UAE is supplying large quantities of bottled water, while the UAE Food Bank provides storage, refrigerated delivery support and volunteer coordination, ensuring the wide-scale impact of this humanitarian initiative.
