An Indian student pilot, Sreehari Sukesh, tragically lost his life in a mid-air collision near Steinbach, Manitoba, according to a statement issued by the Consulate General of India in Toronto on Wednesday, July 9.

In a message shared on X, the Consulate expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing Sukesh as a young student pilot from India and extending heartfelt condolences to his grieving family.

Officials noted that the Consulate is actively coordinating with Sukesh’s family, the pilot training school, and local law enforcement to ensure that all necessary support is being provided during this difficult time, the Indian Express reported.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, approximately 400 metres from a runway used by Harv's Air pilot school near Steinbach South Airport in southern Manitoba, Canada.

The deceased pilots were identified as Sreehari Sukesh, a 21-year-old Kerala resident, and his classmate Savanna May Royes, a 20-year-old Canadian citizen.

The Consulate also tagged the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and the Kerala Chief Minister’s Office in its post, reaffirming its commitment to assist the bereaved family through the ongoing process.
