New Delhi: Merely five months after taking up the job, Archana Gulati stepped down from the post of Google's head of public policy for India. The tech giant is facing a series of antitrust cases in the country.

The reasons for Archana's resignation are not clear. She and a spokesperson for Alphabet Inc declined Reuters' request for comment.

Google is facing a critical time as the Indian government is scrutinising Google's business conduct in the smart TVs market, its Android operating system, as well as its in-app payments system. India's competition watchdog is close to announcing its decision in at least two antitrust cases.

Gulati previously worked at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's federal think-tank. Between 2014-2016, she worked as a senior official at the Competition Commission of India's Mergers & Acquisitions division. Until 2021, she worked as a joint secretary for Niti Aayog, a body critical to the government's policy making. At Google, she led a team of public policy executives working with regulatory implications.
