One died in Ammonia gas leak in Bihar’s dairy facility
text_fieldsPatna: An employee of a milk cum ice cream facility in Bihar’s Hajipur city was killed due to an ammonia gas leak. Around a hundred others fell ill and were hospitalized.
The cause of the leak is not yet known and is being investigated.
The deceased, identified as Deenanath Singh, was a resident of Maner in the Patna district.
The leakage which started around 9.45 p.m. at the Raj Fresh Dairy in Hajipur on Saturday, soon affected the employees. They fell unconscious due to breathing problems.
The local residents, after the mishap, started fleeing from the place. A panic-like situation emerged for some time, but the district administration took control of the situation.
"We learnt about the leakage of ammonia gas from the milk facility and immediately pressed the rescue operation. The district police along with the fire brigade and QRT of Patna immediately reached the spot and rescued the unconscious employees. They were admitted in Sadar hospital Hajipur," said Yashpal Meena, district magistrate of Vaishali.
The district fire officials sprinkled water in the affected area to minimize the effect of ammonia gas.
Vaishali civil surgeon claimed that the situation was under control and the sick persons were undergoing treatment under oxygen protocol.
