Washington: Speaking in the United States, the Pakistan army chief issued nuclear threats against India and dared New Delhi to build a dam in the Indus River, stopping water flow into Pakistan, reports said.

The Pakistan military officer Field Marshal Asim Munir warned that it would “take half the world down” if it faced an existential threat from New Delhi, since Pakistan is a nuclear power.

The military officer was speaking at a black-tie dinner in Tampa, hosted by businessman and honorary consul Adnan Asad.

Munir said that Pakistan is a nuclear nation.

“If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us,” Munir was quoted as saying.

If the reports are true, Munir’s statement is the first known instance of a nuclear threat being issued by the US against a third country, India Today reported.

On the matter of the Indus River, the military officer said that if India builds a dam across it, Pakistan will destroy it with ten missiles, since it is not India’s family property.

"We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, we will destroy it with ten missiles," The Print quoted the officer, citing sources. "The Indus River is not the Indians’ family property... We have no shortage of missiles, Alhumdulillah," Munir reportedly said.

Later, he compared India to Mercedes and Pakistan to a dump truck.

"India is shining, a Mercedes coming on a highway like a Ferrari, but we are a dump truck full of gravel. If the truck hits the car, who is going to be the loser?" he was quoted as saying.

He threatened India, standing on American soil, and boasted about Pakistan’s apparent untapped oil and mineral wealth.
